Summer Youth Program

Growing Plants

The Summer Experiences

Youth will have the fun that goes with camp along with the learning that comes with a hands-on hydroponic farming.

They grow plants hydroponically, learn new recipes, and cook in their homes.

Camps for older youth will include ServSafe training  and certification, workforce skills, and the experience of hydroponic farming.

During the six week summer program students will be planting seeds and harvesting produce weekly, learning food preparation and  food safety.

In addition, each of the 20 campers citywide will receive a weekly stipend of $25 through the Summer Youth Employment Program.

Each student will receive a hydroponic growing kit, seeded pod, enriched nutrients, LED light and apron.

They will be planting produce such as spinach, kale, butter crunch, lettuce, basil, parsley, oregano, tomatoes, and thyme.

At the end of the program, student will be able to keep their growing kits and continue growing. The vegetables will continue growing because the crop are grown hydroponically

indoors.

The planned outcome is  for campers  to turn their developing skills into green jobs to support their own communities.
